A recent revision of Chione (Rubiaceae) has excluded two species, C. exserta and C. seminervis, from the genus on the basis of morphology. The new genus Colleteria is here erected to accommodate those species. The genus Colleteria can be diagnosed by a combination of characters, some of which are: corolla lobes imbricate in bud, anthers inserted at or below middle of the corolla tube, fruit with two pyrenes, the pyrenes adaxially concave, abaxially convex and ridged, with marginal germination slits extending from apex to middle, each pyrene with one locule, ovules solitary and pendulous in locules. Colleteria exserta (distributed in Cuba and Hispaniola) is distinguished from Colleteria seminervis (distributed in Hispaniola and Puerto Rico) by its larger leaf blade size, greater number of secondary leaf veins, longer petioles, longer interpetiolar stipules, and greater number of flowers per inflorescence DAVID W TAYLOR
